FCIC Cancer Care

Compassionate Cancer Care

All cancer cases are different; therefore cancer care requires the collaboration of many health professionals from different specialist backgrounds.

Flinders is known by its peers as a leading cancer care provider. The Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer builds upon this quality service, creating a welcoming environment where cancer patients, their families, and carers can obtain physical, emotional and practical guidance and support.

Co-located with the Flinders Medical Centre, the FCIC is a one-stop environment where patients are linked with specialist services and the Centre’s resources, which include:

Flinders Cancer Clinic

Within the Cancer Care Clinic, medical oncologists, nurses, Cancer Care Coordinators and other specialists work together to provide a coordinated service for patients. During consultations in the clinic a treatment plan will be established and overseen and access to support programs will be arranged.

Flinders Infusion Centre

Designed with the patient in mind, the infusion suite has 12 chairs and two bed bays dedicated to delivering chemotherapy and other treatments in a private, warm and safe environment.

Flinders Cancer Survivorship Program

Based on the successful LIVESTRONG survivorship model in the US, the Flinders Cancer Survivorship Program supports the physical, emotional and practical needs of those who have completed treatment.

Clinical Trials

At any one time the Flinders Medical Oncology Clinical Trials team manage approximately 30 cancer trials that range from investigating innovative cancer treatments to new symptom management techniques.

Cancer Care Coordinators

This specialist nursing service provides support and education to patients, families and carers. After a diagnosis of cancer is made and a treatment plan organised with a specialist, the Cancer Care Coordinators take an active role in the care of cancer patients. Evaluating further needs as issues arise, providing information about treatment options and linking patients with additional resources, the Care Coordinators act as a primary contact for those treated at the Centre.

Function Centre

Public forums, training for medical students, research seminars, therapeutic programs and support groups are held in the state-of-the-art Function Centre on the ground floor.

Information Café

On the ground floor, visitors will find easy access to information in a café environment where internet facilities, brochures and books are available.
